Things I'm Thankful For

(even on one of the worst days of my life so far . . .)

  • Myself
  • Being a good person
  • Being a strong person
  • Being a courageous person
  • Being an intelligent person
  • Being a well-educated person
  • Being an artistically and literarily skilled person
  • Being a beautiful person
  • Knowing how to love, and having the courage to take the risk, even though it inevitably causes pain sooner or later
  • Not having ever suffered all kinds of various things that I haven't ever suffered
  • Not being anywhere near the only one I know who has suffered all kinds of various things that I have suffered
  • Not being anywhere near the only one I know who holds virtually all of my opinions
  • The presence of so many good books in the world
  • The presence of Frank Episale and Raven Digger in the world
  • The presence of so many David Bowie albums in my apartment
  • Having a job that enables me to afford an apartment
  • Having a car that generally works well enough to get me where I want to go
  • Not having to leave my apartment or see anyone for Thanksgiving this year
  • Not having any cavities (my previous dentist had stopped accepting my insurance and it took me a while to find a new dentist so the long space between dentist appointments made me nervous . . . but it turned out okay and there will be no electric drills in my mouth anytime soon)
  • Having a great immune system (not one cold or any other kind of illness in over three years . . . though I do have a swollen lymph node in my neck for the past week which I'm positive is a reaction to extremely severe stress)
  • Not being prone to depression, self-injury, or any similar emotional disasters
  • Having accomplished stuff I'm proud of in my life
  • And, um . . . not a whole lot else.

So . . . mostly I'm thankful to myself, but with some credit also to friends, authors/artists, and relatively more decent parents than most people seem to get stuck with.

That's all the thankfulness I can muster for today though, so I think I'll go to bed now.
