Christmas Loot

Susan and I spent a lovely Christmas morning at her place (soon to be my place too), and a lovely Christmas evening at my parents' house. She gave me:
  • two purple bath towels
  • a purple bath mat
  • an aqua blue shirt
  • hot pink gardening clogs
  • a 72-cell plastic "mini-greenhouse" seed-starting kit
  • Scrabble (to both of us from Santa; Susan will consistently beat me at it)
  • The Age of American Unreason by Susan Jacoby
  • Selected Poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay
  • Fraud by David Rakoff
  • Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault
I gave her a baseball glove, a baking stone, a meat thermometer, a Bubble Thing device and accompanying book for making six-foot soap bubbles, and the book Language Myths by Laurie Bauer. And we both gave each other lots of chocolate in our stockings. She gave me assorted inedible objects in my stocking too, such as lip balm and a toothbrush and a notepad and pens.

My parents gave me these books:
  • The Business of Fancydancing by Sherman Alexie
  • Bluebeard's Egg and Negotiating with the Dead: A Writer on Writing by Margaret Atwood
  • Babylon Sisters by Pearl Cleage
  • Dark Places by Kate Grenville
  • Ann Lovejoy's Organic Garden Design School by Ann Lovejoy
  • Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann
  • Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane
  • Divine Canine: The Monks' Way to a Happy, Obedient Dog by the Monks of New Skete
  • When the Pelican Laughed by Alice Nannup
  • Growing California Native Plants by Marjorie Schmidt
  • Sunset: Landscaping with Stone
They also gave me two CDs (Here come the Warm Jets by Brian Eno and Blah Blah Blah by Iggy Pop) and one DVD (Absolute Beginners starring David Bowie). And my brother gave me Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Stardust is here at Susan's place with me for the four-day weekend, and she has been making very good progress at asserting her authority over the dogs. She has been repeatedly telling the dogs to go away from her, and the dogs have been consistently obeying. Susan gave her toys and a book of kitty games for Christmas, and I gave her treats and canned cat food. We both gave the dogs lots of rawhide (rawhide lollipops, candy canes, and so on). Susan gave the hamster a little nest made of basket-like materials, which the hamster has been eating rather than sleeping inside of. I gave the hamster very queer-looking rainbow-colored hamster treats, which the hamster has not been eating because she's been too busy eating her nest instead.
